James Samuel “Sammy” Rucker III of Buchanan passed at his home on August 1, 2020 after a long battle with cancer and other health problems.
Sammy was born in Roanoke on June 6, 1958. He was preceded in death by his father, James Samuel Rucker Jr.; grandfather, James Samuel Rucker; grandmother, Nettie A. Rucker; great-grandparents, George and Bertha Martin Rucker; grandparents, Okey Ware Fringer, Frank Fringer, John E. Ware; and step-father William C. “Pokey” McClure.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Hash Rucker; mother, Jean Ware McClure; daughter, Bridget R. Owens; son, James Samuel Rucker IV; grandson, James Samuel Rucker V; brother and wife, Eric and Penny Metz; step sister and husband, Whitney and Gary Moore; step son and wife, Chris and Danielle Hash; stepson and wife, Sean and Windy Hash; and step-granddaughter, Rylan Hash.
Sammy attended Lord Botetourt High School, was an Eagle Scout and chosen for the Order of the Arrow. Sammy owned and operated Rucker’s Renovation, enjoyed the outdoors, loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed attending Woodland Union Church with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Rucker. A special thanks to Chris and Danielle Hash for working with Hospice to care for Sammy and to cousin John Ware for all of his love and assistance.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Sammy at a future date.
