In a whirlwind special Botetourt County School Board meeting Sept. 23, members took action on two items impacted by COVID-19.
The first item approved was that Wednesdays will remain remote learning days. Currently, students are zooming in on Wednesday for instructions.
Second, 100 percent of remote learners have the option to change to the hybrid schedule on Oct.19, the beginning of the second grading period.
Three cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Botetourt County schools. On Sept. 15, the district learned two students tested positive for the virus. Earlier, a contract employee tested positive at one of the elementary schools.
A student at Lord Botetourt High School had tested positive. The second student attends Buchanan Elementary School, where the student was being treated for a probable COVID-19 case, Human Resources Director Julie Baker told Roanoke news outlets on Sept.15.
The district is working closely with the local health department when new cases are reported so it can best protect the students and faculty, officials said.
