The Lord Botetourt and James River track teams competed in the 53rd annual Cosmopolitan Meet last weekend at William Fleming High School.
The Cave Spring boys and Patrick Henry girls won Senior Division titles while the Franklin County boys and Christiansburg girls took Junior Division crowns, for ninth and 10th graders. The Read Mountain Middle School boys won their division and Northside Middle was first among the girls.
Lord Botetourt was 14th in the boys Senior Division and tied for fifth in the Junior Division. LB was fourth among the Junior girls.
Individually, Sofia Hernandez won the Junior 800 meters with a time of 2:29.59 and doubled up with a first in the 1600 at 5:28.19. Sofia was named the Junior Division Female Runner of the Meet.
Kaitlyn Mosdell was fourth in the 1600 and Lauren Duff took fourth in the Junior 400. LB’s 4×400 meter relay team of Brooklyn Hornback, Duff, Brielle Jackson and Hernandez was first.
In the boys Junior Division freshman Bryson Cook was first in the 800 and second in the 400. Jeremiah Mayo won the 300 hurdles and took third in the 110 hurdles.
In the Senior Division Nicholas Francis was second in the discus while Jack McNutt took sixth in that event.
LB’s Claire Seibel received the Senior Female Athlete Scholarship of $3,500 from the Cosmopolitan Club.
For James River, the boys were fourth in the Junior Division and Levi Walker won both the shot and discus and was named Most Valuable Field Performer in the Junior Division.
The Senior Boys were eighth, paced by a win by Ian Hester in the 300 hurdles.
For the girls, Kaitlyn Wiley won the 300 hurdles as the Knights took ninth in the Senior Division.
The Knights will participate in the rescheduled Colonel Classic at William Fleming High School this Saturday.
