The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office is preparing for its newest community outreach event, “Shootin’ with the Sheriff,” a sporting clay shoot set to take place this Saturday, April 5, at The Preserve at Crooked Run.

This event, a first of its kind, is open to the public and welcomes both experienced shooters and beginners looking to test their skills and enjoy a day of friendly competition. Teams of four will compete in a sporting clay course, with prizes and bragging rights on the line. It’s a great opportunity to interact with local law enforcement, support local community initiatives, and engage with Sheriff Matt Ward and his staff in a fun and enjoyable setting.

The event will feature multiple activities, including sporting clays, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and lunch. Space is limited, with room for only 24 teams of four, so early registration is encouraged. The cost to register is $400 per team. Spots are filling up fast.

Participants have the option to bring their own shotgun, or one will be provided at the event. However, all participants are required to supply their own ammunition.

Sheriff Ward is excited about the event becoming an annual tradition that brings the community together. “We’re thrilled to offer this unique opportunity to connect with our community in a fun, casual setting. It’s not just about shooting; it’s about our relationships with the community and continued community engagement,” said Sheriff Ward. “We are incredibly grateful to our community business partners for their generous support of ‘Shootin’ with the Sheriff’ and our outreach efforts, helping us make a positive impact in Botetourt County.”

With space limited to just 24 teams, those interested in participating are encouraged to register soon. For more information or to sign up, contact Andrea Mundy at 540-928-2233.
