The fourth annual Miss Crooked Road and Miss Greater Franklin County Scholarship Pageants were held Saturday afternoon, March 16 at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Rocky Mount.
Skylar Gay was selected as Miss Crooked Road’s Outstanding Teen 2019. She is the 14-year-old daughter of Rebecca and Dwight Gay of Fincastle. Skylar is a dual enrollment student at Virginia Western Community College in addition to being home schooled. She is also on the President’s List and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. During the talent competition, she presented a vocal performance of the song “Dreams to Dream.” Her platform, which was discussed in the judge’s interview, involved the importance of educating females in the field of technology.
The mistress of ceremonies for the afternoon was the reigning Miss Virginia, Emili McPhail, who shared her duties with host, Gary Thomas. The pageant was directed by Luci Cobbs Thomas of Martinsville.
The Miss Crooked Road & Miss Greater Franklin County Scholarship Pageant is a non-profit organization run entirely by local volunteers.
