Mary Lee Smith, 92, of Daleville went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 29, 2020.
Mary was the daughter of the late Willie C. and Mary Y. Wilson. She was born on October 1, 1927 in Daisy, Tenn.. Mary spent the first 30 years of her life in Tennessee before moving to Fredericksburg, Va. with her husband Jim. Mary and Jim retired to the Smith Mountain Lake area and in the recent four years moved to The Glebe in Daleville.
Mary was a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School in Soddy-Daisy, Tenn. She later completed one or two years’ worth of course work at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. She was very active in her community as she was a part of the Hospital Auxiliary and Mary Ball Women’s Club in Fredericksburg, Lions Club in Moneta, and she also was a member of Roanoke Church of Christ. She was an award-winning seamstress, an avid quilter, a great cook and was known for baking her specialty fried pies. Mary enjoyed traveling, cooking/baking, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, James A. “Jim” Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Perry James “PJ” (Alma) Smith of Midlothian, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Smith (Ronald A. “Chip”) Worley Jr. of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Rebecca Worley Miller, Deborah Worley, Amy Worley Eads, Lauren Smith Johnson, and Hunter James Smith; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister: Alma Mullins of Niles, Mich.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be 12 noon Wednesday March 4, at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville, with Minister Keith Wagner officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Wednesday. Private burial will be at Virginia Memorial Park at the family’s convenience.
