Toby Wayne Sorrell, 78, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025. He was born in Lexington on February 28, 1947, a son of the late Stuart W. Sorrell, Jr. and Dorothy Vassar Sorrell. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Mullis.
Toby is survived by his wife of 53 years, Debra Sorrell; two daughters and one son, Karrie S. Shepperd (Chris), Nikkie S. Gibson (Ben), Lucas W. Sorrell (Renee); five grandchildren, Christian Crawford, Josie Crawford, Owen Gibson, Katie and Joanna Sorrell; a great-granddaughter, Jianna Joseph; his sister, Dorothy S. Middlecamp (Tommy); and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was a Vietnam Veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Army. Toby made a career as a Long-Distance Truck Driver, logging more than 3 million miles over 40 years behind the wheel. He was an amazing gardener and loved to cook and prepare food for friends and family. His laugh and smile will be missed by all who knew him.
The family received friends on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Oakey’s East Chapel followed by a funeral service at Oakey’s East Chapel on Friday, August 8, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Scott McLucas officiating.
