A meeting of concerned Botetourt County citizens was scheduled for Monday night of this week but cancelled at the last minute. The meeting was in regard to seeking avenues to allow high school sports to return as soon as possible.

The meeting was to be held outdoors at the Ashley Plantation at 6 p.m. Monday. Only 25 people were allowed to attend to discuss ways to get high school sports back and running as soon as possible. However, the meeting was cancelled amid rumors that there may be something in the works to allow the county teams to return to the fields, courts, mats, tracks and pools in the near future.

High school basketball at Botetourt County schools is scheduled to begin next week but those games were in jeopardy as the year 2020 came to a close.

Lord Botetourt is scheduled to open at home on Tuesday, Jan. 5, against William Byrd and the LB girls are at Byrd that same day. On Friday, Jan. 8, the boys are at Staunton River and the girls have a scheduled home opener against the Golden Eagles.

James River’s boys are at Alleghany on Monday while the girls are scheduled to play Floyd County at home. On Jan. 7 the River boys are at Staunton River and on Friday, Jan. 8, the girls are scheduled to play at Giles.
