Blue Ridge district swim meet is Thursday
The Botetourt YMCA will be the host site for the Blue Ridge District swim meet on Thursday of this week. Swimming begins at 7:20 p.m.
The Lord Botetourt team wrapped up the regular season last week with a meet against Staunton River, Alleghany and Covington. The LB girls defeated all three and a Cavalier finished first in 10 of the 11 events. In seven events LB girls took both first and second. The Cavaliers had 11 swimmers swim a personal record or swim something for the first time.
“What a way to finish out our preseason meets!” said LB coach Ashley Safrit. “Very proud of all of them for their hard work this pre-season.”
JR swimmers wrap up regular season
The James River swimmers were scheduled to swim at the Botetourt YMCA on Tuesday of this week for their final meet of the regular season. The region meet is scheduled for Thursday, February 9, at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Last week River took on Covington, Alleghany and William Byrd at the Botetourt Y. Walker Wilson won the 50 Freestyle for River and also swam the anchor leg of the winning 200 Free Relay with Ethan Smith, Damien Mitchell and David Merritt.
Wilson also took a second in the 100 Butterfly while Merritt won the 100 Breaststroke and took a third in 100 Free. Drew Whitson won the 100 Free and took a second in the 100 Breast while Smith was second in the 100 Back and Addison Jones took a third in the 50 Free.
River’s 200 Medley boys relay team took second. That consisted of Smith, Merritt, Wilson and Mitchell.
LB indoor track team has outdoor meet
The Lord Botetourt indoor track team will compete in the Blue Ridge District meet at Staunton River High School this weekend. The meet will be a “Polar Bear” outdoor meet as Staunton River does not have an indoor facility.
The Cavaliers ran inside at Liberty University last weekend had some good performances. Personal bests included Jackson Kemper in the 55 meters with a 7.99, Grant Holmes in the 55 meters with a 7.09 and Meredith Griffin in the shot put with a 26-02.00. Zion Woody, Holmes, Jonah Clark and Jack McDaniel ran a strong 4×200, placing first in their heat.
“We are looking strong for Districts this weekend at Staunton River,” said coach Michelle Gantzhorn.
