Gary Norman Sprinkle, 70, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025, at his residence at 15 Holly Lane, formerly of Country Club Road, after a long battle with COVID and COPD.

He was born in Roanoke at Jefferson Hospital on January 24, 1955, to the late Norman and Glenna Sprinkle. He was raised and spent most of his life as a Botetourt boy. He spent 26 years with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office before retiring.

Gary was referred to as “the people’s deputy” by many, and he loved his work serving his hometown. He loved to run the river and, in his later years, enjoyed spending the day taking back roads with his beloved Drew and Paige. Like his favorite chocolate peanut butter ice cream, Gary was rich in personality. He loved camping and was a Mountain Man up one side and down the other.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Andrew and Elisabeth “Paige” Sprinkle, and their mother, Catherine “Cate” Sprinkle; brothers, Gordon, Ronnie (Lynn), and Ricky (Lisa); numerous nieces, nephews, and too many friends to count.

A Memorial Gathering for Gary was held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. The family received friends an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the RSPCA or a shelter of your choice. Condolences may be made at www.botetourtfh.com or 540-254-3000.
