On Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Historic Fincastle, Inc., with the help of the Botetourt County Historical Society and BCPS is holding Step Back Into History” at the Early Cabin – 18th and 19th Century Living History. This event is to enlighten attendees with the history of Fincastle as it stood in the 1700s and 1800s.
The Early Cabin will be open with “Mrs. Early” as a guest to show the treasures located in this one room cabin where James Matten Early and his family lived in the late 1700s. The Fincastle Company will have a display of a 1700’s encampment. This year they will also have a drummer and fifer on the grounds. There will be history talks throughout the day about the history of Fincastle. The topics will include The Courthouses of Fincastle, The Fire of 1870, The Shops of the 1800s in Fincastle, Jockey Alley, The Hayth Hotel and the attraction of Hayth’s Hotel, plus Early Roads in the Area and the Revolutionary War and Botetourt County.
The back room of the cabin will also have a Historic Fincastle Inc. Museum of its artifacts. HFI souvenirs will be for sale. For the “young at heart,” there will be story time on the grounds and a scavenger hunt with prizes. Hot dogs and the fixings will be on sale during the event.
HFI encourage everyone to attend this event and learn more about Fincastle in the 1700s and 1800s.
