Stoney Brook Vineyards was brought to life in 2012 by a sixth-generation farming family. It is comprised of 240 acres, with 28 acres dedicated to Stoney Brook. Four and a half acres of planted grapes surround the setting, consisting of Petite Manseng, Petite Verdot, Viognier, and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are carefully curated into red, white, and rosé wines. Two of the wines won silver in the 2021 Virginia Governor’s Cup, which recognizes the best of the best wines in Virginia, with selections chosen from over 300 wineries located throughout Virginia. Stoney Brook’s Back Porch Red and the Rosé, from their 2019 vintage, are the silver winners.
It is family undertaking with Jim and Judy Showalter overseeing the grounds keeping and financial side of the business. Daughter Traci Showalter is Business and Planning Operations manager. Kevin Vernon is the operations manager and IT guy. Daughter Carrie Vernon is the wine maker in training and manager of the construction site. Construction began this spring for an event, tasting and production center with a scheduled fall opening.
