The Botetourt County Board of Supervisors held public hearings last Wednesday at the Lord Botetourt High School auditorium to hear from citizens about the proposed budget, tax rates, tax increase, and tax relief for the elderly and disabled.

The supervisors, who will vote on the proposed budget and their June 25 regular meeting, took no action.

According to a county official, there were 46 comments from roughly 30 speakers that were part of over 100 Botetourt residents in attendance who mostly spoke in opposition to the subjects related to the budget and taxes.

Last Thursday morning, the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office received a call to dispatch that an individual or individuals spray painted a threat onto the entrance to the Greenfield Sports Complex and the turning lane of off Etzler Road—directed toward the Board of Supervisors related to the tax increases. Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived at the Sports Complex soon after they received the call and painted over the spray paint. The Sheriff’s Office is currently looking into the matter.
