The Lord Botetourt and James River swim teams will hit the water in competition for the first time this season on Saturday with an invitational at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
LB will be led by Layne Jones, who recently signed to swim at Liberty University next fall. Hanna Mizuba, Olivia Nicely and Sara Fredrickson also return and newcomers to watch include Maxton Mizuba and Julia Misicko.
“I am excited that this year we have enough boys to have a relay team,” said coach Ashley Safrit. “I am also looking forward to seeing how much we grow as a team this year. I think overall we will be a very strong unit.”
River will have two senior boys, Walker Wilson and Ethan Smith, and one senior girl, Drew Whitson, on a roster of nine swimmers.
“My hopes for this year is that the swimmers continue to progress and reach their individual goals,” said coach Yana Williams. “I’d like for the girls team to make it to states this year.”
