Thomas (Tommy, Papaw) Milton Spangler, 82, of Buchanan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole Jean Proffitt Spangler; mother and father, Thomas Matthew and Ruth Welch Spangler; sister and brother-in-law, Iris and Lynden Hill; brothers, Ricky and Tony Spangler; and numerous members of Jean’s family.
He is survived by his children, Debra Thompson, Rhonda (Steve) Cox, Greg Spangler, and Daryl Spangler; grandchildren, Charlie (Alyssa) Conner, Matt (Miranda) Conner, Kallie (Matt) Blake, Katie and David Watts; and Chase (Carrie), Brooke, and Josie (Matt) Spangler; great-granddaughters, Kori and Maci Blake, Brynlee and Maddie Watts, Gracelynn Conner, and Lilly Conner; special niece, Edie (Dennis) Wheeler; special “son,” Edwin “Bookman” Dennis; brother, David Spangler; sisters, Rita (Phillip) Paxton, Tina (Dale) Edwards, Dale (Ernest) Hill; numerous nieces and nephews; and so many other friends.
Tommy was an excellent baseball coach and mentored many young athletes over numerous years. He retired from Roanoke Electric Steel with over 30 years of service. The family would like to thank Botetourt County and all EMTs who assisted with his care on numerous occasions.
A memorial gathering was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 13, at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Burial was private.
