The Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce and First Bank will hold the second annual Tinsel Trail celebration featuring seven-foot Canaan Firs sponsored and decorated by area organizations. First Bank is the premier sponsor of the event with an unveiling of the Tinsel Trail scheduled for Friday, Dec. 3, along with the annual Botetourt County Historical Society Museum Holiday Open House. The trees were cut fresh from a local tree farm and delivered by Rockingham Cooperative ACE Hardware of Troutville.
This year’s display will feature 47 trees designed by area businesses. The trees will be showcased around the Historical Museum, Circuit Courthouse, and Wysong Park areas of downtown Fincastle. Signs in front of each tree will identify the business that decorated the tree.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Khari Ryder Khari Ryder notes that he is “pleased with the participation of so many local businesses and their efforts to make this event special for the community. It provides an opportunity for businesses and the community to work together and bring a creative experience to our region for people to enjoy from all over Virginia. “
“First Bank invites you to visit our second annual Tinsel Trail featuring a festive display of live Christmas trees in the historic town of Fincastle,” said Scott Steele, regional president at First Bank. “We are pleased to team with the Botetourt Chamber of Commerce and organizations sponsoring and decorating the trees, to spread the magic of the holidays throughout our community in a safe and cheerful way.”
The Botetourt County Historical Museum Holiday Open House will feature tours of the Museum and homemade refreshments. This year is especially significant to the museum as it will close the door to this location at the end of the year due to renovations of the adjacent courthouse being undertaken by Botetourt County. Construction is scheduled to start in January. Museum Executive Director Linsey Allie said they “are honored to collaborate again with the Botetourt Chamber of Commerce to help ring in the holidays for this year’s Tinsel Trail! This year will be bittersweet for us as it will be the last year in our current museum building, which has housed the Historical Society since 1966. We are looking forward to many more years of welcoming visitors to our museum at the new downtown location in the former Hagan Law Office at 26 East Main Street.”
The Tinsel Trail opening night celebration starts at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Fincastle with the Mennonite Children’s Choir kicking off the evening with holiday music. The event is free and open to the public throughout December for self-guided tours. For a calendar of events during the month celebrating the Tinsel Trail, visit www.botetourtchamber.com.
