Last Saturday, the Botetourt County Farmers Market hosted the inaugural Tomato Festival. A slew of Botetourt County residents and beyond attended the event.
The market welcomed 30 vendors to the event—the largest turnout for vendors in Botetourt Farmers Market history. The vendors posted a combined sales total of around $18,000. The market saw about 2,500 customers attend the event—also a market record.
Customers enjoyed the heirloom tomatoes tasting, music from Seph Custer, and learning about Botetourt’s tomato canning history.
A tomato sandwich contest showcased some of Botetourt’s local food artisans competing for the top prize. Jesse Feldburg came away with top honors in the “Classic” sandwich category. Elaine and Bruce Ingram won first place in the “Freestyle” sandwich category.
