Buchanan Town Council convened on May 12 to address a variety of municipal matters, including budget amendments, updates on local infrastructure projects, and action items concerning community events and facility improvements.
The meeting began with the approval of minutes from the previous session, followed by routine financial reports. Council members reviewed and discussed proposed amendments to the FY 2026 budget, including adjustments related to increased operating costs and funding allocations for specific town projects. The proposed budget will go to public hearing at a Thursday, May 29 special meeting at 7 p.m.
One of the meeting’s notable agenda items was the consideration of acquiring a portable stage to support town events and festivals. After some discussion, the council voted to table the decision until its next council meeting in June, allowing additional time for cost analysis and logistical planning.
In other business, council received updates on ongoing maintenance and improvement projects, including stormwater system repairs and park upgrades. The Public Works Department reported progress on these initiatives, aimed at enhancing public safety and recreational amenities.
Community engagement was also highlighted during the meeting, with town officials encouraging residents to participate in upcoming events and continue providing feedback on town planning efforts.
Council is set to reconvene June 9, where the portable stage proposal and other deferred items are expected to be revisited.
