For many years, the Buchanan Town Improvement Society had baked and sold coconut cakes as a fundraiser. After a break of nearly 10 years, the coconut layer cakes are back, just in time for Easter.
Serving coconut cake at Easter is an old Southern tradition. The baking process is labor-intensive and the organization is pleased to make it easy for area residents.
Purchasing one or more cakes helps preserve the organization’s 185-year-old Community House in Buchanan and supports their projects. The Community House was originally the Wilson Warehouse and dates to when Buchanan was the terminus of the James River & Kanawha Canal.
Six-inch cakes are $24 and eight-inch cakes are $30. Orders will be accepted through March 22 with pick up March 29. For information, call (540) 817-5772 or email: tis1903@aol.com. Venmo accepted.
