The Lord Botetourt and James River track teams competed in the Joe Curcio Classic at Heritage High School last Saturday and both teams had some strong performances. The Jefferson Forest boys and E.C. Glass girls were team winners.
For the LB girls Claire Seibel was third in the 800 with a time of 2:31.75 while Brooklyn Hornback was fifth. Hornback also took fourth in the 400 and Lauren Duff of LB was seventh in that race.
Sofia Hernandez was third in the 1600 at 5:35.80 and fourth in the 3200. Cassie Feltis was fifth in the 100 hurdles and Erin Kline was seventh in the high jump.
For River, Katelyn Wiley won the girls 400 with a time of 47.42, qualifying for state. Susan Schulz was fifth in the high jump, Kristen Dyer was fifth in the discus and Erin Walker was sixth in the 100.
For the boys, River’s Will Fowler was fourth in the mile and fifth in the 800. Ian Hester was third in the 300 hurdles and Levi Walker took sixth in the shot pot.
For LB, Nicholas Francis was third in the discus and Jake McNutt took third in the shot and fifth in the discus. Freshman Bryson Cook was fourth in the 800.
Connor Hayes took fifth in both the 1600 and 3200 races, while Maxwell Klimczak was 10th in both. Jeremiah Mayo was ninth in the 110 hurdles and 10th in the 300 hurdles. Also, the 4×800 relay team took fourth.
LB is scheduled to host Alleghany in a meet in Daleville today, while James River is at Radford. Both teams will compete in the Staunton River Invitational on Saturday in Moneta.
