Truliant Federal Credit Union annually contributes to McHarg Elementary School by donating school supplies that they collect at their office. This year, however, Melissa Sadler, the member services specialist, wanted to give the school more freedom of choice in the supplies.
“We contacted our cooperate office who said that if we wanted to collect supplies, we could,” Sadler said. “But they also said that that we could also do a monetary donation and that way the schools could purchase whatever they needed.”
Truliant Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1952 to serve the employees of Western Electric and was known as Radio Shops Credit Union. Today, the credit union serves more than 200,000 member-owners with assets over $2 billion.
Truliant has more than 30 Member Financial Centers, including the location in Radford, who extend our valuable services to our members and more than 1,100 organizations located throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
The credit union donated $250 to the school instead of giving physical supplies this year so that way the teachers and administration would be able to buy exactly what is needed.
Sadler recently had her daughter graduate from McHarg and has a son entering the school in the fall.
“Any donation that we get is so helpful, especially with our new STEAM initiative,” Mike Brown, McHarg Elementary principal said. “Just the technology involved with that and the individual teacher’s classroom needs takes a lot of supplies, we are so appreciative of any donation that we get.”
