Jewell Harris Tyndall, 96, of Daleville went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 15, 2024.
She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Clarence W. Tyndall; her parents, Frank and Alma Harris; three brothers, Robert, Leon, and Julian Harris; two sisters, Genevieve Robbins and Estolene Treynor Lemon; and nephew, Jimmy Treynor.
Jewell is survived by two nieces, Melonie Harris Overfelt (Rob) and Belinda Harris McKee (Mike); and two nephews, J. David Robbins (Frankie) and Robert J. Harris Jr. (Tammy).
She lived in Troutville for 86 years and moved to The Glebe in 2014. She was a long-time member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where she praised the Lord by word and song as she sang soprano in the church choir.
Jewell graduated from Troutville High School and obtained a business degree in Secretarial Science from National Business College in Roanoke. She worked her entire career for the Veterans Administration in the Poff Building in Roanoke. She retired as the supervisor of their steno office and won several national awards as the most outstanding steno office in the nation for the Veterans Administration, which was based on productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.
Jewell served several terms during the 1990s as Mayor of Troutville. One of her most outstanding accomplishments was to extend the town’s water supply line to Exit 44 of Interstate 81, which attracted new business to the town and area. Jewell was a life-long Democrat and served for many years on the Democratic Committee of Botetourt.
Her funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Oakey’s East Chapel. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The service will be live streamed at www.Oakeys.com, click on the obituary and the link is at the bottom.
