Fincastle Chapter 797, United Daughters of the Confederacy held a Military Service Award ceremony on April 20 at the Fincastle Firehouse.

The recipient of this year’s award is Marion Noel of Roanoke, who served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He told of his experiences in the military. Noel is a 1942 graduate of Eagle Rock High School.
The bestowal of the medal and certificate was done by Chapter President Harriett Francis and Donna DiMurro, Recorder of Military Service Awards. Noel’s ancestor was George Noel, Co. E, 27th Virginia Infantry.
Family members and friends attended to congratulate Noel and enjoy a time of fellowship.
