The Colonial Athletic Association has named James Madison volleyball’s outside hitter Miette Veldman the CAA Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. This is Veldman’s third weekly conference honor of the season.
Veldman, a freshman from Lord Botetourt High School, averaged 4.81 kills per set with a combined .297 hitting percentage along with 2.00 digs per set after the Dukes finished the final week of the regular season 2-1. She finished her rookie season ranked second in the CAA in kills per set with 4.23.
The outside hitter recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 20 kills and 18 digs, but it wasn’t enough as JMU fell in a mid-week match up to Elon, 3-1. The loss was the Dukes’ only conference loss this season.
Veldman helped the Dukes pick up their third weekend-series sweep, posting 14 kills in the 3-1 victory over William & Mary on Saturday, March 27. In the final game of the season, the freshman recorded 19 kills on a .593 hitting percentage to push JMU to the 3-0 win over the Tribe, helping the Dukes capture the top seed in the South Division to earn a spot in the CAA Volleyball Championships.
The Dukes gear up for the CAA Volleyball Semifinals as they take on the #2 team in the North Division, Northeastern, on Friday, April 2 at 6 p.m. in Towson, Md.
Veldman has also been named CAA Rookie of the Week twice this season.
