Buchanan’s Ghost Tour on Saturday, Oct. 28 will take visitors back into the community’s history.
Visitors on the walking tour will hear from a mix of “spirits” who made the Buchanan area home, including Captain William Whittle and his family who owned the Anchorage on Main Street when the War Between the States began.
Two moonshiners have a story to tell, and two businessmen will let visitors in on one of Botetourt’s most contentious political battles about moving the courthouse to Buchanan in the late 19th century.
Union and Confederate soldiers, a love triangle that resulted in the death of a man and woman, and ghost stories and strange happenings that have occurred at two different homes in Buchanan are all part of the walking tour that serves as a fundraiser for the Buchanan Town Improvement Society (TIS)
The Town Improvement Society will also be selling Petros, hot dogs, black beans and rice, baked goods, hot chocolate, spiced cider and more at the Community House/Wilson Warehouse on Lowe Street where the tours begin and end.
The first tour leaves the Community House on Lowe Street at 7 p.m. and tours will follow every 15 minutes. Tickets are $5 each and children 5 and under are free.
Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 309-1283. There is an advance-only purchase special, if you purchase four tickets you get one free.
