The Lord Botetourt and James River volleyball teams are scheduled to open regular season play next week, with both teams on the road Monday. Lord Botetourt will be at Jefferson Forest and James River will play at Parry McCluer.

The local teams had their final preseason scrimmages this week. Botetourt was at home to host Brookville on Tuesday and James River will host a jamboree in Springwood on Saturday. That will begin at 9 a.m. and include teams from Abingdon, Auburn, Bassett, Fort Defiance, Hidden Valley, Jefferson Forest and Northside.

“The kids really enjoy it,” said River coach Dave McGee. “It gives us a chance to see some teams we don’t normally play.”

The two county teams will play each other in the second match of the season for both, as James River will host Lord Botetourt on Thursday, August 29.

Look for a preview of both teams in a special “Fall Sports Preview” in next week’s Fincastle Herald.
