The Mac Westland Real Estate Group welcomes the community to its grand opening event this Saturday, March 2, at noon. The offices located at 19384 Main Steet in Buchanan will have a food truck from The Hangry Bulldog, wine tastings by Virginia Mountain Vineyards, and giveaways.
Westland, who grew up in Buchanan, has spent the last five years in the real estate industry. He was a “rookie of the year” as an agent while also being a part-time police officer in Roanoke. Westland is a U.S. Army veteran who currently is a cadet mentor for the SROTC at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
The Mac Westland Real Estate Group provides customer service for clients needing to buy or sell residential, commercial, investment, and acreage real estate. In a recent interview, Westland emphasized the trust built between his real estate group and their clients in a small town.
“Small towns, in general, they like familiarity,” Westland explained. “One of the goals of a business in a small town is supporting the small town. In return, you build trust with the people. They like working with people they are familiar with who have history with the town. Someone, who I feel, has the best interest of the community—they are trusted. I bring that to Buchanan. I have property here in Buchanan. My mother still lives here. A lot of the people I grew up with are still here in Buchanan. I want them to have somebody they can trust to help navigate home-buying and selling property.”
Westland served in the U.S. Army as an enlisted infantry soldier and is currently a military intelligence officer. His Army Reserve duty consists of serving as the Assistant Professor of Military Science and cadet SROTC mentor at the Virginia Military Institute.
Prior to being a real estate agent, Westland served over 20 years as a police officer in Roanoke. His experience serving as a law enforcement officer allowed him to help people on a daily basis. After retiring from law enforcement in 2019, Westland has transitioned into serving individuals looking to buy or sell homes/property taking what he learned serving as a policeman and applying that knowledge to real estate. Specifically, wanting to make his clients prepare for the best days of their lives.
“As a law enforcement officer, when we take that 9-1-1 call, in many instances, we are showing up to a home on people’s worst days of their life—not every time, but in many cases,” Westland said. “When I was deciding how to transition out of law enforcement, I wanted to help people because that’s what I am: a people person, a problem solver. Choosing real estate now allows me to take a phone call, show up at their home, and help clients either on the best day of their life or help them get to a place where they will have the best days of their lives. Whether that’s helping clients get into a home that’s going to help them grow their family, downsizing to a more navigable home, getting to a location closer to the resources they need—it’s generally helping people buy and sell real estate in a very positive way.”
