Billy Ferguson has worked as a Firefighter/EMT for Botetourt Fire & EMS since 2020.
“I enjoy working for Botetourt Fire & EMS because it’s such a young department. The potential for how much growth this department has gone through and will go through in the next few years is exponential. Parts of Botetourt County have been and will be consistently growing over the next few years which means the 9-1-1 call volume will continue to increase. It is exciting to be a part of such a rapidly growing department.”
Dylan Kiger has served in Botetourt County with the Troutville Volunteer Fire Department since 2014.
“Volunteering at Troutville is a very rewarding and exciting experience. At Troutville we run the most populated first due run area, covering everything from the urban parts of Daleville to the rural areas heading towards Buchanan. We take a lot of pride in what we do and the community we serve. We have voluntary duty crews to try and maintain in house staffing 24/7 to ensure quick responses.
“No day is ever the same in Botetourt County – the call types are endless. You can go from a wreck on Interstate 81 to Eagle Rock for a Special Operations call, so it stays interesting and you get to serve all of Botetourt.
“Botetourt County is a fast-growing area with increasing emergency calls, so our volunteer departments recruiting and retaining new volunteers is essential to covering the wide range of calls. In Botetourt, there is one career fire engine, located at the Read Mountain station; every other fire department in the county is 100 percent volunteer. All the volunteer departments in the county take a lot of pride in being all volunteer and serving our communities and we hope others continue to join and keep Botetourt as an area with strong volunteer fire departments.”
