The Buchanan Town Improvement Society welcomes the community to an open house from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug.11, at the Wilson Warehouse in Buchanan to see the progress that has be made and efforts in the works to restore one of Buchanan’s most historically significant buildings. Admission is free.
Even if one has been to the warehouse before, it promises to be interesting to learn about the changes that are taking place under the new leadership of the Town Improvement Society, the owner of the building since 1938. Learn about the 1839-era warehousing hoist system still existent on the third floor. View displays and artifacts.
At 3 p.m., attend a visual presentation about recently discovered 19th century record books. In the attic of the Wilson Warehouse were business ledgers from the John S. Wilson Company, but also discovered were ledgers related to other businesses, including milling, personal accounts, a debate society and records of a local “turnpike.”
Beverages and homemade cookies from the “Simply Love Buchanan” cookbook will be served.
