Mountain Castles Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Valley Conservation Council (VCC) are again hosting a free monthly “Backyard Botetourt” workshop series. The second installment of the fall 2019 series is planned for Monday, Oct. 28, from 7-8 p.m. in the Fincastle Library meeting room.
The October presentation, “It’s All About the Worms,” features a local Master Gardener who will offer general composting guidelines with a special focus on vermicomposting. Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are trained volunteer educators who work within their local communities to encourage and promote environmentally sound horticulture practices through sustainable landscape management education and training.
Tim Miller of Mountains Castles SWCD will also have information on the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program (VCAP), a cost-share program that provides financial incentives and technical and educational assistance to property owners installing eligible Best Management Practices (BMPs) in Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
