The Lord Botetourt boys indoor track team finished third in the Class 3A, Region D meet at Liberty University last week. Botetourt athletes set 22 personal bests at the meet and advanced competitors to next week’s state meet at Roanoke College.
The LB girls indoor team finished second and the boys were third. Both teams finished ahead of everyone in the Blue Ridge District. Athletes placing in the top three advanced to the state meet.
Girls advancing to state included Sofia Hernandez, who won the 3,200 with a time of 12:28.82. She was also third in the 1,600 and was named the Female Athlete of the Meet for the running events.
Claire Seibel took second in the 100 and Lauren Duff took third in the 500. Botetourt’s 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams both were second and the 4×200 team was third.
For the boys, Ebben Petry took a second in the 55 meters. Thirds went to Braden Breese in the 300, Bryson Cook in the 1,000, Connor Hayes in the 1,600 and Damian West in the triple jump. Botetourt’s 4×200 relay team was first with a time of 1:36.57, which was a personal best.
Also, Max Burke qualified for the state meet at the Blue Ridge District meet, reaching qualifying distances and heights in the long jump and high jump. He won both events and was named the Boys Field Event Athlete of the Meet
