Lord Botetourt and James River tennis teams will be on the courts Thursday against district opponents.
The James River girls will be at Radford for the Three Rivers District match. Lord Botetourt teams will play William Fleming in Blue Ridge District matches. The LB girls will host Fleming at Hollins University and the boys will play the Colonels in Roanoke.
The Botetourt girls hosted Liberty Christian Academy last week and took an 8-1 win. Kennedy Dorsey won 8-1 at third singles for LB while Gwyneth Farrar and Alyssa Walker were down 1-7 at third doubles and came back and won, 9-7.
“That has to be the best comeback in LB girls tennis history!” said Botetourt coach Sam Belcher. “It was awesome to watch their momentum build until it was seemingly inevitable that they would win. I’m proud of their perseverance!”
The girls were scheduled to return the match today but LCA postponed due to court conflicts.
The Botetourt boys were at Rockbridge last week and dropped a 7-2 match to the Wildcats. Botetourt’s points came from Ethan Steryous at first singles and Payten Arnold at six.
Both the LB boys and girls were scheduled to play William Byrd on Tuesday of this week but results were too late for publication.
