The Lord Botetourt and James River golf teams played a non-district match at the Botetourt Golf & Swim Club on August 19. William Byrd also participated and the Terriers won the day in a very close match.
Byrd finished with a score of 308 to edge Lord Botetourt’s 312 by four strokes. River was close behind at 314.
“We played pretty good but Byrd played better,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “It was a very close match as all three teams played fairly well.”
Lord Botetourt’s Alisa Davidova and River’s Mason Gilliland tied for low score with one-under-par 70 each. Also scoring for Lord Botetourt were Garrett Honts at 75, Cole Cecil at 83 and Derek Bond at 84. For River, Landon Bolling shot a 73, freshman Braden Persinger came in at 85 and sophomore Elizabeth Johnson rounded out the scoring with an 86.
“Each school had a fantastic day,” said James River coach Donna Cox. “It was a team low for Byrd and River.”
On Monday the Knights played in a Three Rivers District match at the River Course in Blacksburg. Floyd County continued its domination of the regular season with a team score of 292. Carroll County was second at 315, Radford had 319, River shot 328, Patrick County had 339 and Glenvar came in at 341. Martinsville did not have a complete team.
Isaish Cantrell of Floyd and Trace Reavis of Carroll tied for medalist with five-under-par 67 each. River’s best round was a one-under 71 by Gilliland while Bolling shot a 74. Also scoring were Persinger at 88 and Johnson at 95.
The Knights are back on the links today with a round at Hanging Rock. Lord Botetourt was scheduled to play on Tuesday at the Copper Cove course in a Blue Ridge District match hosted by Franklin County.
