The James River golfers played a round at the Hobbs Hole course in Tappahannock, Va., last week. The course will be the site of the Class 2 state tournament, in which the Knights are planning to be involved.
River played against non-district opponents Rappahannock and Essex High Schools. The Knights shot their best round of the season with a 159 over nine holes and 311 over 18.
Mason Gilliland, who is at Pebble Beach this week to play in the Pure Championships with the PGA Champions, led the team with an impressive 68, three strokes under par. Landon Bolling shot one-under 70 and Braden Persinger and Camden Saunders both had their best rounds of the season as well, shooting 81 and 92.
The Knights will tune up for the sub-region tournament next Monday when they play Glenvar at Hanging Rock in Roanoke County. The Region 2C tournament is Monday, September 29, at the Great Oaks Country Club.
