The Lord Botetourt golfers tied Christiansburg for second place in the Region 3D golf tournament Monday but lost to the Blue Demons in a playoff as their season comes to an end. Alisa Davidova of the Cavaliers qualified for the state tournament as an individual after posting Monday’s low score.
The Draper Valley Golf Club hosted Monday’s event for all 13 Region 3D schools. Tunstall High won the region team championship with a four-player total of 299. LB and Christiansburg tied for the second spot at 314 with the Blue Demons prevailing in a playoff, so Tunstall and Christiansburg will advance to the Class 3 state tournament. That will be held at the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg next Monday.
Davidova was medalist, and Region 3D Golfer of the Year, with a 65. That was five strokes better than second place Davis Cook of Abingdon, who shot 70. Senior Garrett Honts shot 77 for LB and was just a couple strokes off advancing as an individual. Also scoring for LB were Derek Bond with an 84 and Kennedy Carpenter with an 88.
Davidova has to decide whether to play in next week’s co-ed state tournament or play in the all-girls event that will be coming up this month and she opted to play with the boys next Monday in Harrisonburg.
