
The James River golfers qualified for the Class 2 state tournament with a second place finish in the Region 2C tournament Monday. River’s Landon Bolling shot a two-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors and was named the Region 2C Player of the Year.
Floyd County, who dominated the Three Rivers District all season, won the tournament with an even 300 at the Falling River Country Club in Appomattox. The Buffaloes had three scores of 73 or better along with an 82.
River had the two best scores of the day, Bolling’s 70 and a 71 by Mason Gilliland. Also scoring for the Knights were Braden Persinger with an 86 and Elizabeth Johnson at 95.
The Knights and Floyd now advance to the state tournament next Tuesday at the Hobbs Hole course in Tappahannock.
