Blacksburg High is traditionally strong in tennis and will take on Lord Botetourt in non-district matches on Thursday. The Botetourt girls will play in Blacksburg and the boys will host the Bruins at Hollins University.
The boys are off to a good start. Last week they shut out Magna Vista, 7-0, at Hollins. Singles winners for LB were Ethan Steryous, Davis Kidd, Ryan Dominisac, Nick Wright and Noah McCarren. In doubles, Steryous and Dominisac teamed to win at number one and Kidd and Wright also won.
“Davis Kidd did a great job hitting cross court backhands,” said LB coach Tim Howard. “He was very aggressive on his backhand side and it was always working for him. It was very pretty to see it all come together.”
Dominisac rallied from 5-3 down to win in a tie-breaker. McCarren was the first one to finish.
“Noah harnessed the power of consistency and sticking to stroke fundamentals to win his match,” said Howard. “He has a bright future ahead. After his match, he ate two or three brownies to celebrate the win.”
The girls were scheduled to return to action with a match at William Byrd on Tuesday but results were too late for publication.
