Host William Byrd edged LB on the tennis courts last Friday, 5-4. LB was playing without number one Ethan Steryous, who was playing in an out-of-town tournament in Greensboro, N.C.
Singles winners for LB were Davis Kidd, Ryan Dominisac and Nick Wright. Kidd and Dominisac won in doubles.
“Overall, it was a great day,” said coach Tim Howard. “Both teams fought hard, and I don’t use that phrase lightly. The match lasted about four hours, so there was a lot of tennis played.”
Howard was especially complimentary on Nick Wright.
“Nick had an outstanding day,” he said. “He relied on consistency, keeping the ball deep and out of his opponent’s strike zone. His attitude on the court continues to stand out. He stays focused, composed, and always looks for ways to improve, even when he’s ahead.”
The LB girls defeated Byrd last week, 8-1.
The Cavalier boys will host Northside this Friday at Hollins University while the girls are at Northside.
