The Lord Botetourt Cavaliers continued their strong run in district soccer play last week, moving to 3-0 in the district with impressive wins over Staunton River and William Byrd.
The Cavaliers opened the week with a commanding 8-1 victory over Staunton River, putting together one of their most complete attacking performances of the season. Senior Isaac Alderman led the charge with a three-goal hat trick as the Cavaliers controlled the match from start to finish.
LB followed that performance with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over William Byrd in the Kevin Boeren Memorial Game, decided in dramatic fashion when Paxton Kirby delivered the game-winning goal in the final minute of overtime. Alderman again played a central role, contributing one goal and two assists against the Terriers and being directly involved in all three Cavalier goals.
“Across both matches, the senior captain helped set the tone for a team that continues to grow in confidence and cohesion,” said coach Tim Wright.
With two important wins, the Cavaliers carry momentum into a demanding three-game week. District play resumed Tuesday with a match at always tough William Fleming, then the Cavs will also look to show improvement in a non-district rematch against Magna Vista tonight in Daleville, a team that handed the Cavaliers a 3-0 defeat in their first meeting in Ridgeway. The week concludes with a road trip to Northside Friday as the Cavaliers continue navigating a challenging stretch of the schedule.
After last week’s wins the Cavaliers are now 3-2-1 overall.
