Cavaliers will run in state Class 3 track meet this weekend

With a time of 13.15, James River’s Denver Rinehart placed 2nd in the Region 2C 100m dash, only 0.05 seconds behind Gretna’s Chinara Miller.

Liberty University will be the site of the Virginia High School League Class 3 and 4 state track meets this week. Events will be held on Friday and Saturday with Lord Botetourt sending 15 athletes to the Class 3 meet.

The Cavaliers competed in the Region 3D meet at Christiansburg High School last week and had some great performances. The boys finished in second place as a team and Triston Graves was named Region 3D Runner of the Year. Triston won the 300 hurdles with a school record time of 39.20 and he also won the 110 high hurdles in 14.54.

Ethan Thorne won the 1,600 in 4:21.63. Caleb Miller was second in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, Eric Duncan was second in the 1,600  and John Moughrabi took a second in the 400 meters.

Preston Vaughn took third in the 3,200 and qualified for the state meet. Daniel Estep was fourth in the 400 and Joel Butler tied the school record in the pole, clearing 11’6” to take third.

In the relays Botetourt had two runner-up finishes. The 4×800 team of Archer Lee, Vaughn, Duncan and Thorne was second and the 4×400 team of Graves, Estep, Miller and Moughrabi also took a second and qualified for states.

In the girls’ meet Morgan Wilmer took second in both the 100 and 200 meters, qualifying for state in both. Karleigh Brown had a personal best in the pole vault, clearing 9’6”, and the 4×100 team of Analise Buyalos, Khyler Hambrick-Brown, Janai Compton and Wilmer qualified for the state meet with a fourth place finish in 51.89.
