Class 2 state track meet is at James Madison University this week

With a time of 13.15, James River’s Denver Rinehart placed 2nd in the Region 2C 100 m dash, only 0.05 seconds behind Gretna’s Chinara Miller.

James River will send a strong representation to the Virginia High School League State Class 1 & 2 track meets this weekend at James Madison University in Harrisonburg. The meet will be held on Friday and Saturday with River athletes competing in the Class 2 meet.

The Knights competed in the Region 2C meet at Radford High School last Friday and had some strong performances. Denver Rinehart won the long jump with a leap of 15’11” and also was second in the 100 and third in the 200. Rinehart also ran on the winning 4×100 relay team with Mirai Burton, Maddie Davidson and Vivian Vernon, winning with a time of 51.72.

Davidson took a second in the 800-meter run. Burton was seventh in the 100 and eighth in the 200 and Maren Pauley was seventh in the 1,600.

In the field events Samaya Osborne was fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put while Janiya Falls was sixth in the discus and Brianna Petty was seventh in the shot. Kendall Childs was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple.

In the boys’ meet Jack Beheler won the discus with a toss of 164’ 7.5”. Ashton Orange was second in the shot put and third in the discus.

Ryder Ward placed third in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump. Braden Jones was second in the 800 and Gavin Binns took sixth in the 100.
