Barry Lynn Deacon, 76, of Eagle Rock, passed peacefully into his Savior’s arms Friday, June 19, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Pauline Deacon; uncles, Everette, Bruce, Scott, Carlisle, Clarence, Curtis, Bernard and Boliver Deacon.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 16 years, Carolyn B. “Susie” Deacon; son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Tiffany Deacon; grandchildren, Brayden and Sawyer; sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Butch Ponton; nieces and nephews, Heather and Drake Breeden, Ashley and Dewayne Mundy; uncle, Boyd “BD” Deacon; numerous cousins and great-nephews, and a great-niece.

Barry grew up in Buchanan and was a graduate of James River High School. After high school he attended the Nashville Auto Diesel College and went on to become a hydraulic mechanic. He worked for Carter Machinery for several years and then spent the second half of his professional career at AEP in Salem. He retired from AEP after several years of service but he never really stopped working. You could find Barry mowing grass several days a week and always working on his own vehicles or piddling with something. His prized possession was his 2001 cherry red Ford F150 Lightning.

Among his greatest joys, Barry enjoyed coaching and watching his son in youth sports. During their free time they spent countless weekends fishing and camping at Camp Kilowatt on Smith Mountain Lake. On Sundays you could find him glued to the NASCAR race where he rooted for Ford racing teams. He also loved football and his favorite team the Dallas Cowboys. As the years went by he then became a proud grandpa where he found himself back on the ball fields watching them play.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. with services at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026 at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfh.com.
