It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rose Marie Simmons Lipes Cox, 87, of Buchanan, on June 19, 2026.

Rose was a devoted mother, wife, sister, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Rose was born on August 23, 1938 in Kimball, W.Va., to Vern Odell “Bane” Simmons and Annie Sulic Simmons.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Lori Lipes East (Tommy); her grandchildren, Karlyn East (Chelsea), Anna Watts (Josh) and Eliza East; great-grandchildren, Brooks Thomas East and Emma Rose Watts; brother, Richard Simmons (Anita); sisters-in-law, Phyllis Simmons and Brenda Fowler; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and cherished friends whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Simmons; father, Vern Odell “Bane” Simmons; her husbands, Harold Lipes and Glenn Cox; brothers Curtis (Phyllis), Sherman (Dot), and Butch (Brenda).

Rose Marie worked at Groendyk Manufacturing in Buchanan before retiring after 32 years of service. She then worked at Botetourt Correctional Center-State Prison Camp 25 in Troutville. Rose was a treasured friend whose kindness, strength and unwavering love touched everyone that knew her. Rose dedicated her life to serving others in her community. She devoted more than 60 years of volunteer service to the Buchanan Community Carnival. She generously volunteered at Solomon’s Closet and the Buchanan Public Library. As a faithful member of Buchanan Baptist Church, Rose Marie served countless hours in ministry and fellowship. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she shared it through her compassion, dedication, and service to others.

Lori and family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the caregivers and therapists at Friendship Manor for the love, care, and compassion they provided, especially the staff on Unit 1. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Madhoun– we truly do not know what we would have done without your kindness, guidance and support. The family would also like to thank the Gentiva Hospice team for the compassionate care and services they provided during this difficult time.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 23 from 1-3 p.m. at Botetourt Funeral Home in Buchanan. Funeral services followed at 3 p.m. Rose Marie will be deeply missed and forever remembered. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Rose’s name to Solomon’s Mission in Buchanan or to Buchanan Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfh.com.
