The Three Rivers District golf match at Great Oaks was rained out on Monday and will not be made up. That was the final scheduled regular season match of the season and the teams will now advance to sub-region play next Monday, September 28, also at Great Oaks.
With the regular season now complete, James River’s Landon Bolling has been named the Three Rivers District Player of the Year. Bolling highlights an All-District first team that includes teammate Mason Gilliland from River. Braden Persinger of James River made the second team.
The Three Rivers District tour made a stop at the Hanging Rock Golf Club last Thursday for what proved to be the final district match. As usual, Floyd County shot the low score with a 309. Radford edged James River for second on the day, 312 to 313, while host Glenvar was fourth at 325. Patrick County was next at 329 and Carroll County had 361.
River’s top two players, Bolling and Gilliland, tied for medalist with 71 each. Also scoring for the Knights were Tucker Hall with an 85 and Persinger at 86.
The sub-region at Great Oaks next Monday will begin at 11 a.m. The top three teams will qualify for the Region 2C tournament along with the top six scores from individuals not on those teams.
The region tourney is at Stoney Creek at the Wintergreen Resort on Monday, October 5, and the top two teams in the region will advance to the state tournament along with the three top scores from individuals not on those teams. The state Golf Championships will be held at the Hobbs Hole course in Tappahannock on Monday, October 12.
The Knights will play in a non-district “fun” match at Hanging Rock Thursday of this week with Glenvar and Northside.
