The Lord Botetourt football team is 2-3 as the Cavaliers head into their bye week. Botetourt lost to undefeated George Washington of Danville last Friday night, 34-14, to conclude the first half of their regular season.
“We fought our tails off but we had too many missed opportunities,” said LB coach Nick Leftwich. “We didn’t take advantage of some chances we had and you can’t afford to do that against a good team.”
The Eagles held the LB rushing game in check, as Botetourt had just 55 yards on 21 attempts. Cael Burton completed eight of 21 pass attempts for 126 yards and Beau Lonker completed two of three for 30 yards, including a TD pass to Rylen Wright. Jerry Smith had two receptions for 62 yards and Wright and Dalton Bradley had two receptions each. Burton rushed for LB’s other score.
On defense, Wright and Callum McCoy led the Cavs with five solo tackles each. Jackson Crenshaw had four solos and eight assists while Blake Markham had a sack.
Botetourt will now take a week off before returning to action October 9 for their Blue Ridge District opener against Franklin County.
“We’ll continue working on us and working some on Franklin County as well,” said Leftwich. “The little things are hurting us. We just need to keep working hard to get better.”
