Lord Botetourt and James River will go head-to-head in an intra-county boys soccer game tonight. It’s the second of two meetings, and this one will be in Daleville.

LB won the first game in Springwood, 3-1, and the Cavaliers are still undefeated through last week’s action. Botetourt won two and tied one last week to improve to 5-0-2 overall.

“Our level of play this past week is not best reflected on the score board,” said LB coach Tim Wright. “This does produce some frustrations, however, overall it was a long yet good week for us.”

LB started off with a 3-1 win over William Byrd, then took a 1-0 win over Staunton River before tying Franklin County, 1-1. Five different Cavaliers scored the goals with Blake Myers, Nathan Rich, Trey Rice, Matt Smith and Ethan Hogan getting one each.

“That paints a picture of the diversity and dynamic attacking power the Cavaliers have this year,” said Wright.

James River played Alleghany on Thursday of last week in Low Moor and took a 5-0 win. Brad Stephenson had three goals and an assist for the Knights, while River Clonch and Jacob Hill also had goals. Clonch, Ben Rakes and Andrew Lucas all had assists.

We played a very controlled and confident game against Alleghany,” said coach Jared Whiting. “We were patient and waited for the openings to push into the final third and finished with quality shots. Our defense was strong, midfield took complete control and offense finished strong. Put that all together like we did Thursday and we will win games. Proud of the way these guys are progressing this early in the season.”

After tonight’s intra-county showdown the Knights are scheduled to play at Floyd on Thursday, while Lord Botetourt is at Northside Friday.
