James River had a strong delegation of athletes named to All-Three Rivers and All-Region 2C sports teams this spring, with the all-region teams announced last week.
In softball, River junior Cameron Hildebrand, sophomore Lakota Lucado and freshman Lacey Lucado were all named first team all-district. Seniors Kaitlin Simmons and Sara Faust were second team and honorable mention went to three juniors, Evie Melvin, Erin Perry and Josey Lackey.
Hildebrand and Lacey Lucado also made first team All-Region, while Simmons, Faust, Melvin and Lakota Lucado were named to the second team.
In baseball, Sophomore Dyllan was named to the first team while senior Ethan Loving, junior Coulter Hodges and freshman Jake Braun were on the second team. McAllister was also first team all-region and Loving was second team.
In girls soccer, first team All-Three Rivers honors went to seniors Kaitlyn McClung and Brook Ford, and juniors Colleen Peery, Emma Butler and Megan Hill. Second teamers were seniors Olivia Baker and Abby Wentworth and junior Tessa Jones.
Peery was named Region 2C Player of the Year.
“This is notable for a few reasons,” said River coach Bill Smith. “Player of the Year is usually a senior and from the Region championship team. Also, it is uncommon that a goalkeeper gets this honor. Colleen is a top player and recognized widely as such, but this was still a pleasant surprise. She is a great kid as well as being a great player. I am very proud of her for the season and this honor.”
Other first teamers on the All-Region team were Hill and Ford while Baker, McClung, Jones and Butler all were named to the second team.
The boys had six players make All-Region, including first team selections Zach Hodges and Tyler Meadows. Hodges is a defender and Meadows is a goalkeeper, and both are seniors.
Second team All-Region selections from River include seniors Jacob Wagner and Brad Stephenson and juniors River Clonch and Tristan Flood.
