Walk-off homer gives Rails 18-17 win

A walk-off home run led the Roanoke Rails past the Kernersville Bulldogs 18-17 on Sunday. The game was tied at 17 with Roanoke Rails batting in the bottom of the eighth when Matthew Whitley hit a solo homer.

In the first inning, Roanoke Rails got their offense started when Noah Cook singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Roanoke Rails tied things up at 17. Myles Wilson homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs. Wilson had four hits on the afternoon, included a single, a double, a triple, and the clutch two out, three run home run!

Kernersville Bulldogs scored six runs in the sixth inning. Tucker, Lipke, Wilkinson, Kowalski, and Fisher each had RBIs in the frame.

Adam Linkous was the winning pitcher for Roanoke Rails. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, walking zero. Sam Mclaughlin and Trea Stinnet entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Gianni Smith took the loss for Kernersville Bulldogs. He went two and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one.

Jared Bridges started the game for Roanoke Rails. He surrendered ten runs on 11 hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Greg Brown started the game for Kernersville Bulldogs. He surrendered seven runs on five hits over one inning, striking out two.

Roanoke Rails hit two home runs on the day. Whitley had a dinger in the eighth inning. Wilson put one out in the seventh inning.

Roanoke Rails tallied 16 hits on the day. Wilson, Cook, Joe Quinn, Whitley, and Booger Owens each racked up multiple hits for Roanoke Rails. Wilson led Roanoke Rails with four hits in four at bats.

Kernersville Bulldogs racked up 18 hits on the day. Michael Garvey, Martinez, Brendan Emery, Lipke, Fisher, and Tucker all managed multiple hits for Kernersville Bulldogs.
