Standing Room Only annual meeting
Standing Room Only Inc. will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the Buchanan Theatre beginning at 5:15 p.m. Members will have the opportunity to vote for board members either at the meeting or online. For those opting to vote online, just go to the theatre website, scroll to the bottom of the home page and select “members” to find the voting ball.
Daleville Pizza Hut Tip Night
Toys 4 Bot-E-Tots will have a Tip Night at the Daleville Pizza Hut Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 4-9 p.m.
All tips and donations will benefit children in Botetourt County at Christmas. Santa will be on hand for photos. Families are invited to stop by and have pictures made with Santa. Baked goods also will be available for sale.
Toys 4 Bot-E-Tots donations are now being accepted at The Bank of Fincastle branches for those who would like to make a donation for this worthwhile cause.
Fincastle fish fry November 16
The Knights of Columbus will sponsor a fish fry from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16 at the Church of the Transfiguration, 7624 Roanoke Road, Fincastle. Eat in or take out; the cost is $9 for ages 8 through adult; no charge for ages 7 and under. The meal is lightly breaded flounder (chicken nuggets for children), homemade slaw, sweet cornbread, fries and dessert. There will be a 50/50 drawing. No advance tickets are sold. Buchanan Dates to Remember
• Buchanan Christmas Open House – The public is invited to Buchanan’s 23rd annual Christmas Open House Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23 and 24 when businesses will have extended hours and light refreshments. Many downtown historic storefronts will be decorated with tiny white lights, red velvet bows and fresh evergreens.
• Buchanan Tree Lighting – Be part of Buchanan’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 24 when activities begin at 7 p.m. near the Town Hall on Main Street. The public is invited to join carolers serenading to a medley of familiar carols as the town tree is lighted. Activities culminate with a countdown when the button is pushed to light the tree. Following the lighting, families are invited to take “selfies” with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the Town Hall. Following the program, downtown merchants will have complimentary light refreshments in their stores. Many will remain open until 9 p.m.
• Buchanan Christmas Parade – Share in an “Old-Fashioned Christmas” with family and friends during Buchanan’s Annual Christmas Parade Saturday, Dec. 8 on Main Street starting at 4 p.m. This year’s parade features the Botetourt County Sheriff”s Department acting as Color Guard, marching units and floats as well as antique autos, clowns, horses and honored guest, Old St. Nick. Main Street will close at 3 p.m. for line up with the parade beginning at 4 p.m. To be a participant in this year’s parade use the form in The Fincastle Herald or call the Town Hall at 254-1212.
Fincastle Library’s Jingle Bell Jamboree
The Fincastle Friends of the Library will sponsor an arts and crafts fair to provide a unique opportunity to shop and support the library.
The second annual Jingle Bell Jamboree will feature local artists and craftsmen displaying and selling their works. Some of the items offered will include fine art, pottery, wreaths, Scandinavian trolls, jewelry, handmade wood products, soaps, scents, quilts, cards, ornaments, food, felted items and books by a local writer. The Friends of the Library will have items for sale as well. Proceeds from the library’s sales will benefit the library’s children’s programs, including the Summer Reading Program.
The event takes place on Friday, Nov. 30 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Admission is free. For more information call the library at 928-2700.
Movies at the libraries
The Blue Ridge and Fincastle Libraries will show the Disney-Pixar animated film “Incredibles 2” in November.
In this newly released PG-rated film, Mr. Incredible is left home with the kids when Elastigirl becomes the new face of superheroes.
The movie will show on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. at both libraries. Free snacks will be provided at both showings.

November book club at the Eagle Rock Library
The Eclectic Readers Book Club will be reading “Everything I Never Told You” by Celeste Ng and will meet on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. for discussion.
Buchanan Library yard sale
The Friends of the Buchanan Library will be holding a “Basement Yard Sale” in the basement of the Buchanan Library on Saturday, Dec. 1, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Hundreds of items, including household, crafts, Christmas and holiday decorations, and other miscellaneous items will be for sale. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Buchanan Library. At the same time, Solomon’s Closet will be holding its Christmas Bazaar from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.. Plan on visiting both sales and stock up on items for your home or the holidays and support both organizations, the Buchanan Library and Solomon’s Closet. Use the Lowe Street entrance for both sales.
