The James River girls will be back in action Thursday with a Three Rivers District game at Carroll County. The Knights were weathered out of a game at Floyd on Tuesday.

River dropped two Three Rivers games last week. The girls lost to Alleghany in Low Moor, then fell to Radford at home on Friday.

The Alleghany score was 50-21 in favor of the Mountaineers. River was playing with seven players and a couple who did play were battling illness or injury.

“With only seven players we had a hard time keeping up with their speed,” said River coach E.D. Schechterly. “Getting up and down the floor and having to run a couple players in and out because of other issues, we had our hands full.”

Lakota Lucado led the Knights with nine points. Olivia Griffin had six and Madison Brogan had four.

“I think the biggest problem that we are having is that we don’t have a healthy team,” said Schechterly. “We have the desire and hard work, both during practice and game, but we have two players that have asthma and we have to watch their playing time and one with a bad back. We as coaches understand about their problems and are very grateful for what they do day in and day out.”

On Friday the Knights were back home and dropped a 53-16 game to Radford. Brogan had six points to lead the Knights, who dropped to 2-8 on the season.

“We shot very poorly in the Radford game and told the players that they have to continue shot good shoots and eventually they will fall,” said Schechterly. “We give the girls a lot of praise for not giving up and working hard in practice and also the games, and encourage them to continue working hard the remainder of the season.”

River is scheduled to play at Carroll County on Thursday.
